Our Primary Focus
Large Fowl Brahmas
Our primary focus — bred toward the APA Standard of Perfection in six stunning varieties.
The King of Chickens
The Brahma is one of the most majestic heritage breeds in existence — large, calm, and breathtakingly beautiful. At Whispering Willows Farm, Brahmas are our heart and soul. We carefully select every bird for breed type, size, feather quality, color pattern, and overall excellence, always working toward the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection.
Our flock includes six varieties, each with its own distinct beauty and character. Whether you're seeking show-quality prospects, quality breeding stock, or simply a magnificent addition to your flock, our Brahmas are raised with the same dedication to excellence that defines everything we do.
Seven Varieties
Our Varieties
Blue Buff Brahma
A stunning combination of warm buff base coloring with blue lacing — one of the most visually striking varieties we raise. Each bird carries a unique interplay of color that makes them truly eye-catching in any flock.
SOP Focus
Selected for proper blue lacing definition, buff ground color, and correct Brahma type including pea comb, feathered shanks, and broad, upright carriage.
Light Brahma
The classic Brahma — white body with black hackle striping and black tail. The Light Brahma is the variety most people picture when they think of this breed, and for good reason. Elegant, large, and wonderfully calm.
SOP Focus
Bred for clean white ground color, sharp black hackle striping, correct pea comb, and the characteristic broad, full body and feathered feet of the breed.
Blue Light Brahma
A blue-based variation of the classic Light pattern — carrying the same elegant structure with a softer, blue-toned hackle and tail. A beautiful and less common variety that turns heads at every show.
SOP Focus
Emphasis on correct blue coloration in hackle and tail, clean white ground color, and full Brahma type. Blue genetics require careful pairing to maintain consistency.
Dark Brahma
One of the original Brahma varieties — the Dark carries rich, intricate penciling in hens and bold hackle and saddle patterning in roosters. A classic variety with timeless beauty and the full, imposing Brahma frame.
SOP Focus
Hens are selected for tight, even penciling across the body. Roosters must show correct black and white hackle and saddle striping. Breed type, size, and feathered shanks are always the foundation of selection.
Blue Dark Brahma
The Dark Brahma pattern in blue — rich, complex feather patterning with a blue overlay that creates a depth of color unlike any other variety. Roosters and hens each carry their own distinct and beautiful pattern.
SOP Focus
Dark Brahma pattern requires precise penciling in hens and correct hackle/saddle pattern in roosters. Blue genetics add an additional layer of selection complexity we embrace.
Blue Salmon Brahma
Warm salmon breast tones meet blue-laced feathering in this striking variety. The Blue Salmon is a showstopper — soft, warm, and complex in color with the same magnificent Brahma size and temperament.
SOP Focus
Salmon breast color must be rich and even, with correct blue lacing on the back and wings. Maintaining color balance across generations requires thoughtful breeding selection.
Isabel Brahma
The Isabel is one of the most ethereal color varieties in the Brahma world — a soft, silvery-lavender that results from the interaction of the dilute gene on a buff base. Hens carry a luminous, pale silver-cream body with delicate lavender-gray lacing, while roosters display a richer interplay of warm buff and cool silver tones. The color is sometimes described as "washed gold" or "silver buff" and shifts beautifully in different lighting. Isabel is not yet an APA-recognized variety, but it is an increasingly sought-after color in quality breeding programs.
SOP Focus
Selected for correct Brahma type above all — broad carriage, pea comb, full breast, and heavily feathered shanks. Color selection focuses on even dilution across the body, clean lacing definition, and avoiding muddy or patchy ground color. Breeding Isabels requires careful management of the dilute gene to maintain consistency across generations.
Gold Brahma
Rich golden coloring with the full, imposing Brahma frame — the Gold variety brings warmth and brilliance to the breed. A newer variety in our program that we are actively developing toward SOP excellence.
SOP Focus
Gold coloration is selected for richness and evenness across the body. As with all our varieties, Brahma type — size, carriage, pea comb, and feathered feet — is never sacrificed for color.
Our Approach
Bred Toward the Standard
Every breeding decision we make at Whispering Willows Farm is guided by the APA Standard of Perfection. We evaluate our birds for breed type first — the broad, upright carriage, full breast, pea comb, and heavily feathered shanks that define the Brahma — and then for color, pattern, and variety-specific traits.
We do not rush our program. Careful selection, patient culling, and a long-term view of breed improvement are what separate quality breeding from simply producing birds. Our goal is always the next generation — birds that are better than the last.
